Dr. Judy Segal

Judy Z. Segal (English) teaches courses in history and theory of rhetoric and in rhetoric of science and medicine. She is author of Health and the Rhetoric of Medicine (Southern Illinois UP, 2005) and of several articles on rhetoric and health/medicine. She was, from 2003 to 2007, a member of the President’s International Advisory Committee of CIHR. Her current research is for a book (Penn State UP) under the tentative title, “Public Discourse/Personal Experience.” She is interested in how public values, expressed in popular discourse, become persuasive and are taken up in individual bodies. She was, in 2011, a Visiting Scholar in McGill’s Social Studies of Medicine Department.
