STS Colloquium: Tod Chambers Jan 3

Tod-Chambers

Tod Chambers of the Northwestern University Medical Humanities and Bioethics Program is giving an STS colloquium talk titled “In Praise of Navel Gazing, or An Argument For and Against Bioethics Studies” on Thursday, January 3, 5:00-6:30pm at the Green College Coach House.

As the discipline of bioethics enters its intellectual adolescence, it has begun to reflect upon its identity. In this presentation I will explore the various forms of self-reflection that have occurred—historical, ethnographic, philosophical—and will argue for the importance of a fourth type of self-reflection, one that emphasizes the rhetoric of bioethics.
