Dr. Steel received his PhD from the Department of History and Philosophy of Science at the University of Pittsburgh in 2002. His research focuses on coupled ethical-epistemic issues in science, especially in relation to environmental and public health issues. He is the author of Philosophy and the Precautionary Principle: Science, Evidence, and Environmental Policy (Cambridge 2015) and Across the Boundaries: Extrapolation in Biology and Social Science (Oxford 2008), is co-editor, with Kevin Elliott, of Current Controversies in Values and Science (Routledge 2017), and is the author of numerous articles in leading journals in the philosophy of science.
